Howrah Station, on the west bank of River Ganges (River Hooghly), handles most trains into the city from other major cities of India. Luxurious Passenger Trains like – Rajdhani Express or Satabdi Express are also running daily basis to/from this station. Other long route express trains are connecting Kolkata with Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab, Jammu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat on daily basis. For North Bengal and North-East States trains leave from Sealdah and Howrah Station.


There are several useful bus routes to other towns in West Bengal. Buses generally depart from the Esplanade Bus Terminus at Central Kolkata; there are a number of private companies that have their own stands. Daily AC and NAC deluxe-super fast and VOLVO services are available to North Bengal, Siliguri, Jalpaiguri etc from Kolkata.
